Aggressive Advocacy on Behalf of Employees
Employers who fail to pay overtime compensation to employees are in violation of federal and state law. At Feldman Browne Olivares, our attorneys represent employees in class action lawsuits related to overtime pay laws in Los Angeles. We work to guarantee that an employee’s compensation fully reflects the hours worked.
California Law for Overtime Compensation
Employers are required by federal and state law to pay overtime compensation to most employees working more than 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. The law requires that employers pay overtime pay of one and a half times the regular wages for all hours worked over 8 hours per day and the first 8 hours on the seventh consecutive day of work. Double the normal rate of pay is required for all hours worked in excess of 12 hours in a work day.
When an employer violates overtime law, we argue for:
- Wages due for base pay and overtime pay
- Commissions, bonuses, vacation, and other types of compensation
- Overtime interest
- Overtime penalties
- Injunctive and declaratory relief
- Attorney’s fees and costs
Although most employers in California are bound by overtime pay laws, overtime pay laws in Los Angeles does not apply to all employees. For example, doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants, executives, high level managers, and outside salespersons are exempt from overtime pay laws. If you have a question about how the law applies to your job, we encourage you to contact us for a free consultation.
